In a few words
OceanSITES is the international network of GOOS (Global Ocean Observing System) of deep ocean reference observatories at key sites in all basins of the global ocean. Observations are collected using buoys, mooring and ships and cover the whole water column from the air-sea-ice interface to the sea-floor.
Being in operation over years to decades, OceanSITES observatories provide long time series data that help derive indicators of a changing climate on the ocean and contribute to process understanding. The data acquired aims to provide an integrated view of the ocean as a key component of the planet’s climate, addressing meteorology, climate, ocean physics, biogeochemistry, biology, and geophysics.
The OceanSITES community rests on the principles of open science, fostering the collection, wide dissemination and re-use of OceanSITES data for the good of science and society. OceanSITES is a collaborative network working to make its expertise, knowledge and data Findable, Accessible, Interoperable and Reusable (FAIR).
